Tassajara creek burning July 2nd - Shundo David Haye

In the summer of 2008, with wildfires raging across California, the situation at Tassajara grabbed international attention: Zen monks defy evacuation orders to defend their temple from certain destruction. They work and train tirelessly with the support of seasoned firefighters, expecting that the fire will “creep in.” But conditions change, and gusty winds and extremely hot temperatures force fire officials to order everyone to leave. And this time they do. But on the way out, five monks decide to turn back, believing deeply that they can save the monastery from wildfire.
